ABSTRACT
Our instructor began with the simplest of sentences and had us repeat them multiple times. The first was ‘This hat is expensive.’ Since one has to bargain for everything one buys in Nepal, it was a useful sentence. The next step was to announce a different noun – say, ‘long socks’ – and we would have to respond on the fly with the Nepali sentence for ‘These long socks are expensive.’ The goal was to get us to be able to respond without even thinking about it.
