ABSTRACT
Israeli culture and identity have been influenced by life in ancient Israel, the long history of the Jewish religion, the experiences of different Diaspora communities in many places around the world, as well as cultures of the Middle East and Europe. But it is the culture of the Mediterranean—its music, art, and way of life—that has had the most unexpected influence on Israeli culture at the turn of the twenty-first century.
