Two years before her death in 1905, Mary Ashton Rice Livermore addressed the New England Anti-Imperialist League in words that rang with the pas sion of a life lived in service to the public:
Livermore’s life belied the notion that women had not been able to “do much.” She had been helping men (and women) all her life.
