ABSTRACT

Charismatic leadership theory has several different authors. Among them, the theories of Robert House (1977) and Bernard Bass (1985) stand out. Both are predicated on prior contributions, by Max Weber and James M. Burns respectively. Of the two, Bass’s transformational theory appears to have spanned the largest amount of subsequent research; on the other hand, however, House’s theory came first, and his eight propositions on charisma are in fact incorporated in the Bass formulations, above and beyond Bass’s own propositions.
