ABSTRACT

This article focuses on leadership, and thus top management, and hierarchic systems; it was published in Personnel Psychology (Berman and Miner 1985). It attempts to get at how managerial motivation operates among these types of leaders, and to establish the causal processes that are involved. Fred Berman conducted the research for his PhD dissertation at Georgia State University. Throughout this period he was actively involved in recruiting managers for company positions in the Atlanta area.
