ABSTRACT

The Princeton study, and with it a more complete statement of the role motivation theory of leadership, was published as a chapter in a book (Miner 2002a). This book, entitled Transformational and Charismatic Leadership: The Road Ahead (Avolio and Yammarino 2002), was an outgrowth of a festschrift-conference held in Binghamton, New York to honor Bernard Bass. For this reason the chapter is somewhat skewed toward the transformational theory of leadership that Bass created, especially in the later pages. Having known Bernie for a number of years, I was pleased to honor him.
