ABSTRACT

Soong Qing-ling (1893-1981), a great patriot, democrat, and internationalist known throughout the world, was for a time hon orary president of the People’s Republic of China. An early sup porter of Sun Yat-sen, she became his wife and at the end of her life finally joined the Chinese Communist Party. In many respects her life paralleled China’s changing political situation after the democratic revolution of 1911 and the Communist rev olution of 1949.
