ABSTRACT

Madam Han (b. ca. 378 a .d .) , a military adviser, became fa­ mous for the defense of Xiangyang, Hubei province. The place and date of her birth, the date of her death, and her family history are all unknown. Madam Han’s husband, Zhu Dao, be­ cause of his talent, was appointed as junior officer (or captain) and then prefectural governor. Their son, Zhu Shu, also known as Zilun, was a famous general during the middle period of the Eastern Jin dynasty 317-420 a .d ., which ruled from Nanjing, while it attempted to recapture the North. Early in the reign of Jin Emperor Xiaoyang, he was appointed junior general in Nanzhong and prefectural governor in Liangzhou.
