ABSTRACT

Intellectually the period was dominated by the neo-Kantian school of idealism and culturalism. Immanuel Kant ( 1724-1804) became the philosopher most admired by the Japanese, and many of his works were translated into Japanese. With each work published came a new corps of adherents. Henri Bergson's ( 1859-1941) etan vital deeply influenced many philosophers, including Nishida Kitaro (1870-1945).
