Section 1 Introduction

This chapter begins with a discussion of two sharply conflicting perspectives: traditional, neoclassical economics and progressive political economy. It then provides a brief road map that shows where the rest of the book will go. Finally, for an amusing example of the differences between these perspectives, we present two different views on Robinson Crusoe’s interesting island economy.
