This chapter looks at some of the history and arguments in the vehement and sometimes violent debate over free trade.

• Compare and contrast the arguments for and against free trade between countries. • Explain the comparative advantage model of trade (including the assumptions for the model)
and how it is used to argue for free trade. • Cite historical and current examples of protectionism and the free trade debate.
