ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a large-scale social media data collection and research program focused on energy efficiency and climate change. The ultimate goal of this two-year program of work is to refine an energy and climate change taxonomy of terms, develop analytics that are robust in the face of an extensive database, and conduct iterative tests of simple and complex analyses (frequency of mentions over time; connections to social events, social networks and building, and maintenance of online energy related issue communities). The final goal of the program is to make the analytic tools and database available to energy-related scholars as well as others for the advancement of a social movement for environmental sustainability.
