ABSTRACT
Most traditional bridges are anchored at either side of the body of water or valley that they span; however, this is not always the case. Some bridges are designed to float on the surface of the water. Others are not permanently installed and are taken down once they are no longer required. Military bridges, for example, are often packed up or destroyed once troops have crossed them so that no one else can follow their route.
