ABSTRACT

If broadly shared prosperity across the American workforce is to be restored, the key to unlocking this new pattern of prosperity will be found in the service sector. According to the 1996 Economic Report of the President, private services provided 98 percent of the economy's employment growth in the past twenty-five years, 94 percent in the last nine years, and 104 percent in the last five.
