ABSTRACT

The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is angry about racism, intemperate in his remarks about blacks in America, even wrathful about the kill ing in Iraq. I gather that some public figures want a calm, polite discussion of kidnapping in Africa, forced passage across the Atlantic, coerced labor in the New World, cotton picking, beatings, lynchings, separate black and white drinking fountains, seating in the back of the bus, jail for miscegenation, segregation in the army, Marian Anderson barred from the front door of the hotel, and similar embarrassments.
