ABSTRACT

I t is significant th a t while there are num erous books specially devoted to early infancy or ‘T he Pre-School C hild’ and to adolescence, there are very few specifically on m iddle childhood, or a t least labelled such. This does not m ean th a t the child of this period has been neglected. T he plain fact is th a t the child between seven and eleven or twelve is w hat we usually understand by ‘the child’, and books on child psychology largely have him in m ind.
