ABSTRACT

The rapidly expanding Latino/Hispanic population within the United States has necessitated a demand for neuropsychologists to provide culturally and linguistically competent services. Therefore, consideration and attention is needed for the variations in linguistic proficiency, ethnic and racial diversity, acculturation, and socio-cultural differences among this group. To grasp the unique challenges presented in neuropsychological assessment with Latinos/Hispanics, it is important to understand the definitions attributed to the terms “Latino” or “Hispanic.” Though seemingly uncomplicated, finding a precise and suitable term to describe this heterogeneous population is difficult.
