ABSTRACT

The claim asserted in this paper is that the systems approach is a valuable and productive framework for creating instructional materials and teaching-learning systems. For the purposes of this paper, the construct will be referred to as instructional systems development (ISD). Its hallmarks are, according to McCombs (1986),

the use of analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in an iterative and cybernetic process which begins with an analysis of system (or training) requirements and culminates in a fully evaluated instructional system (or set of training materials) that performs to specified standards and requirements.
