ABSTRACT
The immediate, visible purpose of most design education activities is to assist individuals in developing greater levels of design expertise. While this end-goal is a sufficient rationale for engaging in the considerable effort of design education enterprises, it need not be their only tangible return. Design education, even while it fosters current design expertise in an individual, is an invaluable site for reshaping what will constitute future design expertise in a discipline.
