ABSTRACT

Any time, any place, any pace . . . it is an addictive, short, sweet phrase commonly used to promote K-12 online learning. Though well intentioned and theoretically defensible, the laissez-faire mindset this phrase evokes undermines the importance that time, place, and pace have in the learning process and results in suboptimal experiences for novice online learners. If the absence of structure continues to be as pervasive as it has been despite clear findings proving this unstructured environment works, we see the onset of true disadvantage for K-12 student success in digital learning environments.
