ABSTRACT

This volume has highlighted dynamic processes of institutionalization at work in East and Southeast Asia. It has been especially interested in the regularization of cooperative activity – how and why states come to cooperate on a more dependable basis (or not), the kinds of frameworks produced, and what these processes say about intra-regional relations and cooperation in East and Southeast Asia. In this vein, chapters illustrate some of the different ways that the region has been transformed by new and increasingly regularized cooperative activity – activity that at once reflects, and contributes to, the growing ties between the region’s states and economies. Indeed, there has been an unprecedented amount of inter-state cooperative activity taking place in East and Southeast Asia.
