ABSTRACT

The Société nationale des chemins de fer français (National Society of French Railways, SNCF) operates national and international rail services, including the Train à Grande Vitesse (TGV) on France’s and Western Europe’s high-speed rail network. Divisions of SNCF also provide urban and regional rail services, freight and logistics services, infrastructure design, construction and maintenance, and station management. Four million passengers take SNCF trains every day; longdistance and high-speed rail services account for over 130 million passengers a year and include almost 500 high speed French and international trains. Since 1981, more than 2 billion passengers have travelled on the TGV.
