ABSTRACT
Casing is fundamental to many forms of inquiry, both social scientific and humanistic, and can be used to further diverse goals. This chapter explores tensions in two basic forms of casing, one anchored in qualitative research, the other in quantitative research. Despite formal similarities, the differences between these two approaches to casing are striking and not easily reconciled.
