ABSTRACT
Most of us can recall stories of how girls and women aiming forscientific careers were hindered in their professional goals and aspirations in ways that men were not. As the two of us began writing this chapter, we realized that, while we grew up in different places, attended different educational institutions, and entered different Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, much about our experiences is strikingly similar.
