ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I reflect on some core guidelines to develop sustainable environmental policies from the perspective of a politician who has sought to bring about change. They derive from my own experience as a practitioner, as opposed to an environmental scientist or a global activist. I focus particularly on Australian experience in transforming the way it manages water and plans to limit its impacts on climate change.
