ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the evidence base for the psychosocial treatment of children’s mental health disorders. This is a daunting task despite the fact that targeted approaches for addressing children’s mental health problems are more than a century old-a relatively short time when one considers the lengthy history of general health care. During this period, however, multiple conceptual and theoretical models have emerged that have had a significant influence on the development of psychosocial treatment approaches, preventive interventions, and the preferred evidence on which they are based.
