ABSTRACT

ADHD is among the most commonly diagnosed disorders in childhood. In a review of 102 studies of the worldwide prevalence of ADHD in children and adolescents, Polanczyk and colleagues (2007) reported the prevalence of ADHD is about 5%. This means 1 in 20 children meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD. Notably, the total cost of ADHD in the United States in 2005 was an estimated $42.5 billion (Pelham, Foster, & Robb, 2007), making it a substantial public health concern.
