ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to give a brief look beyond the current state-of-the-art micro-scale urban flow and dispersion models used in the making of urban climatic maps (UCMaps) today. It introduces the innovative atmospheric turbulence modelling technique ‘Large-Eddy Simulation’ (LES) as an advanced component in the making of UCMaps. The chapter will deal with the following questions:

• What is urban LES and how can it aid UCMap makers in the process of UCMap making today and in the future?
