ABSTRACT

In December 2008 I sat before an ancient wooden desk in the office of Muzaffar, the circulation director of one of Delhi’s oldest Urdu dailies. From a wooden cabinet he brought out a thick pile of Urdu newspapers: Pratap, Milap, Jadeed In-Dinon, Sahaa Fut, Jadeed Khabar, Hamara Samaj, Inquilaab-e-Hind, Halat-e-Watan, Hindustan Express, Akhbare-Mashriq and Daily Tej.
