ABSTRACT

Foundation funds were obtained for a 12-week gender-specific Spoken Word program to take place during the winter of 2013. The artists for this phase were the Spoken Word faculty member from the University of Michigan-Flint, who had been with the program since its inception, and one of her former students, who currently works as an Occupational Therapist at a local hospital. In addition to the artists, the staff included the Program Director, Program Administrator, and a student intern. This chapter will focus on the themes addressed throughout the session and the manner in which they were presented.
