ABSTRACT

Females and males commit different types and amounts of crime according to official crime and victimization statistics. Historically, females have engaged in less serious forms of criminal activity, and a large majority of all criminal activity has been committed by males. In particular, males are traditionally more likely to engage in aggressive, assaultive, and serious forms of crime such as murder, rape, and robbery. While these trends are supported by official statistics, important changes in these trends have been noted with regards to gender and criminal behavior.
