ABSTRACT

Since the first edition of this text was published, the application of criminological theory to the understanding of high-technology/cybercriminals has grown. This emerging field of study, termed cybercriminology , is the study of why individuals engage in cyber-related criminal acts such as hacking, identity theft, and digital piracy. Most of the studies thus far have attempted to apply criminological theories developed in relation to physical world crime to the study of cyber-related behaviors. There are several textbooks under development that are devoted to cybercriminology, and there is at least one international journal dedicated to the topic, The International Journal of Cyber Criminology .
