ABSTRACT

This book has presented a dark image of our futures as they apply to our most basic social contract: our ability to get along

with each other. Our history suggests that we do not play well together. Our political response to global warming, the primary marker of a government’s willingness to invest its resources in a significant problem, is abysmal. Yet, a substantial part of the population recognizes the immediacy of the threat of climate change and they recognize the change it will bring. Fortunately, this part of the population also has the skills and knowledge to address and mitigate the problems. Their presence gives us hope.
