ABSTRACT The police photographer may need to photograph items of evidence using specialized lighting techniques, such as ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR). Many items of physical evidence may only be visualized using wavelengths outside the visible spectrum. UV and IR photography may be used to visualize body fluids, fingerprints, hair and fiber, gunpowder residues, ink discrimination in questioned documents, to see through paint pigments for traces of blood, bruising and injuries, tattoos on decomposed bodies, and so on.
