ABSTRACT With film photography, the photographer needed to know not only how to take proper photographs but how to develop them in a photographic darkroom. With today’s digital cameras, the police photographer is required to know how to “develop” pictures using computer software to produce an image that will be useful in court. The computer has largely replaced the traditional darkroom as a means of enhancing photographs through contrast, filtration, color separations, and so on. This chapter covers the use of Photoshop and other software programs useful to the police photographer in creating accurate
details of evidence and scenes that will help not only criminal investigators but also aid the judge and jury in understanding the facts of a case. This chapter also covers the use of digital scanners and printers.
