ABSTRACT

Thirteen-year-old Sarah is a year 10 student at Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC). Sarah is an assessment-capable learner who knows how to use feedback to improve the quality of her work.

After getting my composition assessed by Ms Tan, I realized my piece was not very well written in terms of where the notes were sitting. This means that my melody was very jumpy and had little shape to it. After thinking about this, I changed most of my melody to give it shape. I did this by having the notes with small intervals between them and instead of having a high note, then suddenly a low note, then a high note again; it went from lower notes and higher to the high notes, then back down again, a bit like a scale but using passing notes and cadences. Also, I had the accents of my melody on the wrong words of my lyrics so I created an anacrusis so that the first word was emphasized because it was the most important.
