ABSTRACT

A city’s shape and form can be seen as a reflection of society’s values and cultures. Geographers, sociologists, architects, and planners all agree that while the physical environment is not the sole determinant of our behavior in the world, it certainly influences and constrains our actions through the interactive effects of environment, values, and behavior. In the examination of the work of urban visionaries and planners, one can gain a better understanding of how the city’s environment impacts its residents.
