ABSTRACT

Introduction China’s geographical landscape covers a wide range of economic regions with significant differences in economic and industrial development. The interesting points in Chinese economies are that there are diversified driving forces, such as local or regional companies, local and central government, and overseas invested firms in relevant regions, to jointly develop local economies, with heavier geographical agglomerations over different industries. Among them, concentration and distribution of innovation capacities in China may be one of the most dynamic parts in this fast growing economy. Questions in this regard are often raised on the driving forces in different regions in China on geographically bounded innovation activities, and the potentiality of economic development in the region. This chapter will deal with related topics to those possible driving forces and the geographical pattern of economic development and innovation activities in China.
