Ventilation concepts Planning and implementation m i c h a e l s wa i n s o n

The fabric of a building provides the occupants with very effective separation from the outdoor environment. However, with the requirement to achieve ever-higher levels of energy efficiency (by reducing unwanted heat losses and gains), building envelopes are becoming increasingly airtight. As a result, odours, pollutants, moisture and heat are trapped inside the building. It is essential therefore to incorporate an effective means of ventilation that will introduce outside air and remove ‘stale’ internal air.
