ABSTRACT

This book is about artists and entrepreneurs in the arts that have the competences, the courage, the motivation and the traits to cross national borders in order to attract global audiences and supporters, to expand their image and visibility beyond the domestic environment and to create international encounters. It tackles important issues that at a first glance belong to two different and sometimes opposite worlds – the one of arts and creativity and the one of economics, management and markets. Artists often state that the drivers for their artistic inspiration are not directly connected with financial

and market issues. They create because they cannot live without doing it. This is their mission, credo, inspiration, talent. Artistic creativity is the focus of entrepreneurial ventures in the arts. It often goes beyond the artistic field and is increasingly important for many other areas of the business and society. Entrepreneurs begin with a creative innovative idea, organise a start-up arts enterprise and expand it beyond its national border at a certain stage of its organisation’s development, or from its early inception.
