ABSTRACT

Pat went to die Salvation Army one Sunday evening after having supper with Mike. He was passing that way and heard the songs and testimonies. He was curious about the type of service that was being conducted, so he popped in. Under his arm he was carrying a salt codfish that Mike had given him. He was scarcely in the Citadel when the officer began to preach. The officer took as his text: “Take that unclean thing from thy bosom.” Every now and again while he was preaching he would refer to his text. Pat was really getting worried. A Protestant friend was sitting quite near. Pat reached over and said to him, “He knows I got it.” Finally he could not take it any longer. He got up, went up to the preacher and said, “Here, take the damn old fish! You think more over one lousy fish than father thinks over a quintal.”
