ABSTRACT

Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy comprising three branches of power: legislative, executive and judicial (Folketinget 2012). With a national population of approximately 5.6 million at 2014, one third of the Danish population lives in the four main cities of Copenhagen (capital), Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg. Denmark is characterised by universal welfare services which include free healthcare and free education. It has one of the world’s most flexible labour markets, based on a flexi system, where employers can dismiss workers with relative ease. The Danish workforce has one of the world’s highest levels of education and employment mobility, and it leads the world in the transition to a green growth economy (Denmark.DK 2014).
