ABSTRACT
The focus in this chapter is upon the copying of copyright material under licence to a greater extent or number of copies than the ‘research or private study’ norms in Q2. Playing or showing works under licence are matters detailed only in chapter 9, and addresses are in 12.31. Licensing organisations are numerous, and only the main ones are described in this chapter. In all licensing, it should be borne in mind that, as terms can be revised at intervals, any specific points made here should be regarded as subject to a check of the licence currently available. Individual licensing or contracts for specific purposes such as regular copying or re-publication of a particular source are outlined in chapter 12 on copyright administration. Chapter 12 also draws together brief notes on current licensing and contracts. The concept of ‘point of sale’ is treated in 12.35.
