ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the force responsible for motion and deal with the forces and linear momentum involved with linear motion. Dynamics is the study of objects in motion. The fundamental laws involved with the study of dynamics are Newton's laws of motion. The weight of a body at rest at the earth's surface is equal to the gravitational force the earth exerts on it. If the object is resting on an inclined plane the reaction force is normal to the surface and must be equal to the component of the weight which is at right angles to the surface. In a mechanical system involving a number of connected bodies, it can consider each body in turn and draw a diagram showing all the forces acting on each body. Such a diagram is called a free-body diagram because it has isolated each body from its surroundings.
