ABSTRACT
What Koreans call Dokdo and Japanese call Takeshima are small islands that jut straight up from the sea between the two countries. They are large and lopsided, mangled pyramids of tuff and basalt, roughly equidistant to mainland Korea and Japan (about 115 miles in either direction).
