ABSTRACT

Setting off on the Trans-Siberian railway from Moscow to Vladivostok Peter had only a vague idea of what to expect. By observing the country from his train window and talking to people he realised that it is one of the most industrially developed parts of Russia. His fellow traveller was Lev Nikolaevich Lensky, a famous biologist and an expert on the flora and fauna of Siberia. He relayed his concerns about Siberia to Peter.
