I’ve been creating costume, prop, and puppet projects ever since I was a very young girl. I’ve always enjoyed playing makebelieve, pretending to be someone or something else, and especially liked to play costume dress-up. No blanket, towel, or bedsheet was safe from me; they were always being used for capes, medieval princess gowns, flags, tents, or any number of other costume/prop pieces. My mother has often told the story of how she found me one day curled up asleep in a cardboard box covered with a blanket, a caterpillar waiting to turn into a butterfly. I suppose you could say that was one of my earliest cosplays!
