ABSTRACT

Other Arab travellers followed in the footsteps of TamƯm b. Baতr and penetrated deep into the Eurasian steppes. Ibn FaঌlƗn departed Baghdad in the days of the caliph al-Muqtadir (in 921).70 Abnj Dulaf Misޏar b. al-YanbnjޏƯ al-KhazrajƯ (À . 943-952) wrote two travel accounts, one of which reports his travels across Eurasia.71 The short text is often vague, and more likely is a fabrication of a narrative aimed to please the reading public. It is worth mentioning that the interest of Arab travellers in the Eurasian steppes did not stop after the establishment of the Saljnjq Sultanate.72
