ABSTRACT
Play with objects is a pervasive activity of children from a very early age. This play involves objects of both large and small size and of simple and complex character. Contexts also influence the types of object play that can be observed and the meanings children attribute to the play. Although the meanings of object play may differ across individual children, there are a number of age/stage differences in object play that have been observed.
