ABSTRACT

The potential risks associated with the installation of heat-producing appliances in buildings are related to noxious fumes and fire. To combat these problems Requirements J1, J2 and J4 seek to provide for sufficient combustion air, the suitable discharge of combustion products and the protection of the building fabric. Requirements J5, J6 and J7, relating to provision of information, liquid fuel storage and pollution, respectively, have been added by the 2002 edition of the Approved Document. The 2010 Edition added Requirement J3 relating to the provision of carbon monoxide alarms. For work where a building regulation submission would not be necessary, reference should be made to Tables 1.1 and 16.1.
